St. Stephen’s begins transgender support group

In March St. Stephen’s in Hurst held the first meeting of a new transgender support group.

The need for the group was discerned following the church’s community-wide event “Try Being Me: I’m your LGBTQ neighbor.” Barbara Cutter, St. Stephen’s member, noted that comments from attendees at that event included “I need a friend who will listen to my spiritual questions,” “I need resources to help with my transition,” and “I don’t understand what my teen is telling me.”

St. Stephen’s members hope that a forum of friends can help with these questions and others being asked by transgendered people and their families, so the church is offering to host this new support group once a month.

Organizers say: “Our support group invites anyone who is transgender or has a transgender family member. We want to welcome, love and support you and your family any way we can. There are no fees to participate and no professional counseling offered. We plan to share resources, offer spiritual support and be a friend.”

The new group will meet on the last Sunday of each month at 3:00 pm at St. Stephen’s, located in the Village Plaza Shopping Center at 463 West Harwood Road in Hurst. All are welcome. For more information, contact rachelgirl593@gmail.com
