Katie Sherrod

 

Katie Sherrod is the director of communications for the Episcopal Church in North Texas. She has worked as a journalist in newspapers and television for more than 40 years. In addition to her work with the diocese she is an author and video producer. She is the editor of and a contributor to Grace & Gumption, Stories of Fort Worth Women published by the Texas Christian University Press [Fall 2007], and of the Grace & Gumption Cookbook, also published by the TCU Press [Fall 2010]. She is the author of Women of the Passion, the story of the passion of Jesus from the viewpoint of the women who followed him. She covered the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in England for the Episcopal News Service in 1998. At the Lambeth Conference in 2008, she was editor of the daily Lambeth Witness, a publication published jointed by LGBT Advocacy groups from England, Canada, and the United States for the duration of the conference. She produced and directed the award-winning documentary Voices of Witness Africa, which tells the stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Anglicans in Africa. This video was shown at the 2008 Lambeth Conference. She has served on several church wide bodies, including the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church. She has served as a deputy to General Convention 2009, 2015, and 2018. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA. for her advocacy work for women in the church and in society. She was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in 1987 for outstanding contributions in the field of communications, named one of Fort Worth’s Outstanding Women in 1988 and Texas Woman of the Year in 1989. She has a daughter and two grandsons.
