Archibald Donald Davies

The Rt. Rev. A. Donald Davies was the first bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth.

The Rev. Davies was elected as the bishop of Dallas in March, 1970, succeeding the Rt. Rev. Avery Mason, who had died suddenly. He was ordained as a bishop on June 22, 1970 and served as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of Dallas.

At a convention in November 1982, the Diocese of Dallas formed a western diocese covering 24 central Texas counties – the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth.  The church’s canons allowed Bishop Davies the choice of continuing with either diocese, and he chose Fort Worth. The served the Diocese of Fort Worth until his retirement in 1985.  He died October 16, 2011 at the age of 91.
