Executive Council to meet January 31

The Executive Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth will meet from 10 am-2 pm Saturday, January 31, 2015, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 463 West Harwood Road, Hurst, Texas, 76054.

This is the first meeting in 2015 of the Executive Council. The Executive Council is established by canon and is to “carry out the program and policies adopted by the Diocesan Convention. Except as may be provided for by the Diocesan Convention, by the Constitution or these Canons or otherwise delegated to other Diocesan officials or entities, the Executive Council shall have charge of the coordination, development, and implementation of the ministry and mission of the Diocese.”

The following have seat, voice and vote in the Executive Council – the bishop, who serves as president, the bishop coadjutor, if there is one, serves as vice president; the president of the standing committee serves as second vice president and the president of the diocesan corporation serves as third vice president. Additionally, one lay and one clergy representative are elected to council from each deanery and have seat, voice and vote.

Members with seat and voice but no vote are suffragan bishop(s) if there are any; assisting bishop(s), if there are any; the treasurer of the diocese, the dean of each deanery in which the dean is not a clerical or lay representative, the sub-dean of each deanery in which the sub-dean is not a clerical or lay representative, and the secretary of the diocese.

At this first meeting of council, members will be assigned to a committee of council – the Congregational Development Committee, the Christian Formation Committee, the Structure Committee, or the Finance Committee.

The chairs of these committees also serve on the Management Committee, along with the bishop, the canon to the ordinary, the president of the standing committee, the president of the corporation, chair of the Finance Committee, the diocesan treasurer, the diocesan chancellor, and the diocesan director of communication.

The Management Committee meets regularly between meetings of Executive Council “to monitor progress on Executive Council initiatives and resolves, undertake work delegated by the Executive Council, recommend action on time sensitive matters, appoint persons for organizations established by the Executive Council, and develop the agenda for each Executive Council meeting. Management Committee meetings are from 3:30 to 5:30 opm on Thursday, March 5; Wednesday, April 29; Wednesday September 2, and Wednesday, November 18. Locations will be announced. Meetings are open to everyone.

Executive Council meetings also are open to the public, except for when the council meets in executive session. Executive sessions usually are called for matters related to personnel, litigation, or real estate. No votes can be taken in executive session.

Executive Council meetings are scheduled for March 21, which also will be a leadership workshop; May 16, and September 19, with locations to be announced. A tentative date of December 5 also has been set. The 2015 Diocesan Convention will be November 13—14 at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center.
