Episcopal Church in Wichita Falls honored for ministry

The Episcopal Church of Wichita Falls (ECWF) received a “Spirit of the Community” award at the 30th anniversary celebration of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

ECWF, in partnership with MCC and the First United Methodist Church, began offering a “Downtown Dinner” monthly well over a year ago under then priest-in-charge, the Rev. Amy Haynie. That ministry has continued and flourished. On a quarterly basis, ECWF is responsible for the entire meal and desserts offered to those in need that evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The dinner is at MCC, only a block from Faith Mission, a shelter for the homeless, and serves approximately 80 participants form the Mission, although anyone who is hungry and asks for a meal will receive one.

“While our ECWF numbers are small and our hands are growing older, under the leadership of SuzAnne Russell, we greet and serve those in need with warm food and a smiling face.” said Brent Walker.
