Diocesan leader George Komechak died August 8, 2015

Diocesan lay leader George Komechak, 79, died at his home in west Fort Worth on Saturday, August 8, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Gilbert Komechak, and a son, Gil Komechak; a daughter, Kim Komechak; two grandsons and a great-grandson.

George Komechak played a key role in organizing Episcopalians who were determined to remain in The Episcopal Church prior to the departure from the church of a former bishop and other diocesan leaders in November 2008. He served as president of Fort Worth Via Media, working tirelessly helping to organize publications, speaking engagements, and other events to counter misinformation being promulgated about The Episcopal Church, often traveling to the far corners of the diocese. He was a member of the Steering Committee North Texas Episcopalians, the body that worked with Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori to reorganize the diocese in early 2009.

He served as chair of the diocesan Constitution and Canons Committee. He served as senior warden at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church when a former rector tried to remove the parish from the diocese. He served as a delegate to diocesan convention multiple times. Most recently he was a member at Trinity Episcopal Church, Fort Worth.

Arrangements are pending.
