Trinity hosts Arts Gala Saturday, April 9

This Saturday, April 9, enjoy an evening devoted to visual and performance art. Attend the Trinity Arts Gala at Trinty Episcopal Church in Fort Worth.

Saturday Evening Schedule

5:00 PM – Doors open with light hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction in the parish hall.
6:00 PM – Dinner is served in the parish hall.
Dinner is followed by a concert in the nave.
Dessert will be served in the parish hall following the concert. Results of the silent auction will be announced.

Artists Performing

The concert features several acclaimed artists, whose achievements are described on Trinity’s Gala event page as follows:

Jesús Castro-Balbi, Cello: Dr. Castro-Balbi is a professor at the TCU School of Music in Fort Worth, Texas, where he teaches a select studio of undergraduate and graduate cellists from the US and abroad. He created the TCU Cello Ensemble and the TCU Cellofest, led the Faculty & Friends Chamber Music Series for 11 years, and received the College of Fine Arts Award for Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar.

Edward Newman, Piano: Edward Newman received both the B.M. and M.M. degrees from the Juilliard School, and has been soloist with numerous orchestras, among them the Cleveland Orchestra, the National Symphony, and the Baltimore Symphony. He was awarded first prize at the 1979 Casadesus International Piano Competition. He was also a prizewinner in the Gina Bachauer and University of Maryland competitions, and was a semifinalist in the 1981 Van Cliburn Competition. A pianist of virtuosity and sensitivity, Edward combines the qualities of “brilliant technique” (Washington Star) and “a light touch of dazzling clarity” (Cleveland Plain Dealer) with “expressive lyricism” (Washington Post).

Laura Logan Brandenburg, Harp: Laura Logan Brandenburg has served on the Texas Christian University School of Music faculty since 2001, where she teaches harp and harp pedagogy, coaches the TCU Harp Ensemble and is director of the TCU Summer Harp Workshop. In addition to her duties at TCU, Laura maintains an active private studio, teaching both Suzuki and traditional students. She is founder, director and member of the Octavia Harp Ensemble, performing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond for the past 20 years.  The ensemble has released two recordings on the Traditional Sounds label and has commissioned and premiered several new works for harp ensemble. A highly regarded free lance harpist, Laura currently serves as Principal Harp with the Lewisville Lake Symphony, where she looks forward to playing for the Lake Cities Ballet Nutcracker every Thanksgiving.

Sheila Allen, Voice: Sheila Allen, Professor of Voice and Division Chair of Vocal Studies, holds the BM from Oberlin Conservatory, MM, DMA, and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and has studied in Stuttgart, Germany as a Fulbright scholar.
A pupil of Helen Boatwright, Lore Fischer, and Helen Hodam, she was a national finalist in both the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and the NATS Artist Awards. Active as a recitalist and soloist in recital, operatic, and orchestral repertoire, she has performed roles with the Baltimore, Chautauqua, Eugene, Buffalo, and Rochester Opera Under the Stars Opera companies, appeared with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Syracuse Symphony and recorded for CRI, PBS, and Deutschlandfunk. She has appeared as a recitalist in various European venues, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the National Gallery of Art.

David Yeomans, Piano: Visiting Professor, TCU School of Music; Professor Emeritus of piano, Texas Womans University; faculty artist, Orfeo International Music Festival, Vipiteno, Italy. Dr. Yeomans has a national reputation as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician, having performed in recital at New York’s Town Hall and Carnegie Recital Hall, as well as across the US, Canada, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, and South Korea.

Sunday Bonus Arts Event

The Trinity Arts Gala ticket also includes admission to a voice recital in the nave featuring Trinity’s own Alaina Ice at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 10.

Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds of this fundraiser benefit ministries of Trinity Episcopal Church.
