Bible Study Opportunities
Many parishes throughout the diocese have regularly scheduled Bible Study classes to which all are welcome. Below is a listing of some of them. All Saints' - Fort Worth
Beginning Wednesday, January 13, and for five weeks thereafter, Mthr. Melanie Barbarito will have a special offering at 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The five-week study is titled, "Uppity Women of the Bible."
Beginning Sunday, January 10, the parish's twentysomethings group (adults in their '20s and '30s) will meet at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday for an hour of Bible study based on the readings from that day's Eucharistic lectionary. The group is led by seminarian-intern Heather O'Brien, a third-year student on the Anglican Studies track at Brite Divinity School.
On an ongoing basis, the Women of All Saints' meet for Bible study on the first Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. And the men of the parish are meeting each Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m. (under the banner of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew) to study I and II Samuel, focusing on the material about David.
Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd - Granbury
Bible study takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays in the "Book Nook" above "Books on the Square" on the west side of the square in Granbury (enter through the bookstore). For information contact Leslie Guinn at 817-279-7186 or Ljguinn2@aol.com.
The Episcopal Church in Parker County
Small Group bible study meets Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (except first Thursdays) in Northwest Parker County (about 15 minutes northwest of Weatherford). They use a book as a guideline, but it is not strictly structured, lots of discussion, no homework, no "experience" necessary. Their meetings are followed by snacks and a short social time. Call 817-594-9442 for directions or more information.
Saint Luke's-in-the-Meadow
A women's Bible study group meets on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to noon. They begin with mass and then study Philippians, using the African Bible Study method.
On Sundays at 9:00 a.m. Dr. David Brockman leads a series on world religions and how they intersect with Christianity and how they differ from Christianity. Visitors are welcome.
St. Stephen's - Hurst
An Adult Sunday School Class is facilitated by Diane Snow and Devorah Titunik. This class begins at 9:00 a.m.
Trinity - Fort Worth
Fr. Bruce Coggin's Bible Study class resumes on January 27. They meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m., and will continue reading and discussing Paul's letters, then work their way through the rest of the New Testament.
Fr. Bill Taylor leads a Men's Bible Study group that meets every other Thursday at 7:00 a.m. The meeting begins with bagels, coffee, juice and conversation, followed by an hour of Bible study. Study guides and a brief verbal overview are prepared and presented by Fr. Taylor. They are currently studying Romans. The group usually dismisses between 8:15 and 8:30. To determine which Thursdays are class days, visit Trinity's online calendar.
Fr. Taylor also leads a weekly Bible Study class that meets on Tuesday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. Bring your favorite version of the Bible. Participants read aloud the scripture of the day and discuss the meaning and milieu-istic information about the scripture—why it was written, who was the intended audience, who authored it, what was happening at the time it was written, and what message does it have for us today. Important differences between Bible versions are noted. You don't need to be a well-versed Bible student to enjoy and learn in this class. Come if and when you can. Fr. Bill provides study notes so that if you miss a session, you can still catch up.
A Women's Bible Study group, led by Karen Parrish (karenparrish@prodigy.net) meets on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. This spring they will be studying the Beth Moore series "When Godly People Do Ungodly Things: Arming Yourself in the Age of Seduction."
