Preaching Planning Workshop on September 17

Preaching Planning Workshop on September 17

Our ELCA brothers and sisters in the Northern Texas – Northern Louisiana Mission Area have invited our clergy to attend their fall Preaching Planning Workshop on from  9 am to 4 pm on September 17, 2015, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Mission Center at Briarwood Retreat Center in Argyle, Texas.

The workshop will help pastors get a leg up on Advent and Christmas sermons. The workshop will focus on scripture study and preaching preparation for Advent and Christmas, and will include presentations on lectionary texts, group discussion about contextual realities and emerging themes, and individual time to reflect on preaching possibilities. The workshop is offered in person ($75) and online ($50), and all attendees will have exclusive access to the video recording after the event.

The Rev. Kendra Mohn, Teaching Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, will lead the workshop. She is also a PhD candidate in New Testament at Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. In her academic work, she works with issues of power, gender, and the Roman Empire as the context for the New Testament. She is committed to creative conversation between the academy and the Church and interested in the ways the two contexts inform each other.
