New liturgy “Services at the Loss of a Beloved Animal” offers comfort for pet lovers

All Saints’ Episcopal Church worshiping at the Arc in Wichita Falls is a dog friendly congregation. As many as five well mannered dogs have on occasion attended Sunday Services. A Lab named Boy and a Golden Retriever named Ginny most generally are present and move around the room to “pass the Peace” before services begin.

The congregation was delighted when our General Convention in July approved a liturgy for Services at the Loss of a Beloved Animal. The liturgy was read for what is believed to be the first time in the diocese last month following the death of the senior warden’s beloved Bichon Frise and the treasurer’s 18-year-old cat named Tornado.
All Saints has compiled an adaptation of the liturgy Services at the Loss of a Beloved Animal which our members will take to their own veterinarians and animal shelters. Anyone desiring a copy may call 940-692-0824.
