Author of Holy Ghost Girl to speak in Hamilton

Donna Johnson, author of Holy Ghost Girl, will be in Hamilton at the Fine Arts Center, 112 W. Main, on March 25, 2012 at 2:00 pm for a reading from her book and a discussion of the issues raised by her story. Holy Ghost Girl is Ms. Johnson’s first-person memoir of her childhood with the tent preacher David Terrell during the 1960s and 1970s. Ms. Johnson’s family was part of the inner circle of his ministry from the early days. She watched his evolution from backwoods tent preacher into world-wide evangelist and then again into apocalyptic cult leader. What results is an enthralling memoir of her personal experience and the society that raised her. For those of us who have often wondered what might be happening underneath the revival tent, Ms. Johnson provides answers from the perspective of her own childhood experience.

Holy Ghost Girl has received national acclaim as a superbly written memoir telling a vivid story of a childhood that was uniquely Ms. Johnson’s. Publisher’s Weekly selected Ms. Johnson’s book as one of its top ten memoirs for Fall 2011 and the book has appeared on a number of best seller lists. Further information on Ms. Johnson and Holy Ghost Girl can be found at www.holyghostgirlthebook.com.

Ms. Johnson will read selections from her book and engage in a moderated discussion of the issues raised by her story. These issues include the conflicts that inevitably exist at the junction of the spiritual and material worlds. Copies of Ms. Johnson’s book are available at all major book stores, Amazon, and the Hamilton Public Library.

Donna Johnson is now a resident of Austin, Texas. Her appearance in Hamilton is sponsored by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 600 E. Main Hamilton Texas. Ms. Johnson will be worshipping with St. Mary’s at the 11:00 am service on March 25. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
